Ship Repair: Abidjan Strengthens Its Competitiveness with a 12,000-Ton Floating Dock

The Abidjan Ship Repair and Industrial Maintenance Company (Carena) has taken a major step in boosting its operational capacity.

On October 20, the company took delivery of a state-of-the-art 12,000-ton floating dock, the Autonomous Port of Abidjan (PAA) announced in a press release issued on October 21.

This high-tech facility — 144 meters long and 48 meters wide — complements the two existing docks with capacities of 2,000 and 10,000 tons already in operation.

Representing an investment of 12.5 billion CFA francs, the new dock will enable the maintenance of larger vessels and significantly enhance the shipyard’s docking and service capabilities.

Acquired by Carena, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL), in partnership with Sifia, a West African ship repair specialist, this new infrastructure aims to improve the efficiency and performance of ship repair and maintenance services.

It will help reduce turnaround times, optimize logistics operations, and strengthen the strategic position of the Port of Abidjan as a leading maritime hub in West Africa.

This acquisition aligns with the vision of PAA Director General Hien Sié, who continues to promote the modernization of port infrastructure to enhance Abidjan’s competitiveness on the continental stage.
