The Digital Readiness Assessment (DRA) and the Digital Flagship for West Africa projects—two key initiatives aimed at accelerating digital transformation in Côte d’Ivoire—were officially launched on Monday, November 18, 2024, in Abidjan-Plateau.
This took place during a ceremony organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Digitalization and the Embassy of Italy in Côte d’Ivoire. The event revolved around the theme: “Accelerating Digital Transformation for an Inclusive and Connected Côte d’Ivoire.”
The Ivorian Minister of Digital Transition and Digitalization reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making digitalization a strategic priority. “Although this is just one step, we are realizing a vision—a Côte d’Ivoire resolutely committed to digital transformation, as outlined by President Alassane Ouattara,” stated Ibrahim Kalil Konaté.
The Italian Ambassador, H.E. Arturo Luzzi, expressed Italy's ambition to establish a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Digitalization, with the involvement of Italian companies in digital innovation. “Our goal is to collaborate so that digital technology becomes a driver of sustainable and inclusive development,” he emphasized.
UNDP Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, Blerta Cela, called on all stakeholders to play their part in making Côte d’Ivoire a digitally advanced and connected nation.
The Digital Readiness Assessment, a UNDP-specific tool, aims to help the government and UNDP identify national digital priorities based on evidence and thorough analysis. It supports leveraging digital opportunities to achieve sustainable development goals. The assessment also provides a comprehensive overview of national digital readiness.
The Digital Flagship for West Africa project, funded by the Italian government, aims to catalyze transformative digital development opportunities in Côte d’Ivoire by leveraging Italian expertise and funding. It seeks to improve connectivity in rural and remote areas, enhance access to digital infrastructure, and foster the development of public digital systems.
Around 100 participants from ministries, international organizations, the private and public sectors, and civil society attended this landmark event.
