On Friday, October 3, 2025, Côte d’Ivoire and Germany took advantage of the 35th anniversary of German reunification to reaffirm not only their historic friendship but also their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation focused on sustainable development and shared prosperity.
The German Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Matthias Veltin, recalled the historical significance of October 3, 1990, a symbol of unity and resilience for Germany, and highlighted the principles that continue to guide German international action today: multilateralism, reliability, and solidarity. He stated, “Germany will remain a reliable partner for Côte d’Ivoire, particularly in vocational training, renewable energy, environmental protection, security, and good governance.”
On behalf of the Ivorian government, Minister Delegate Adama Dosso expressed President Alassane Ouattara’s gratitude to the German people for their ongoing support. He praised Berlin’s commitment to youth training, climate change mitigation, and support for priority projects under the National Development Plan (PND 2021–2025).
Since 1962, Ivorian-German cooperation has never been interrupted, even during periods of crisis. It has been strengthened through initiatives such as the G20 “Compact with Africa” (2017) and, more recently, the Partnership for Climate and Development (P+), signed in 2023, which focuses on forest preservation, biodiversity, and energy efficiency.
Today, the bilateral portfolio exceeds €950 million, including €280 million in technical cooperation (via GIZ) and €700 million in financial cooperation (via KfW). Since 1960, Germany has invested over €1.5 billion in Côte d’Ivoire.
This celebration, far more than a tribute to the past, demonstrates the determination of both countries to build a partnership firmly focused on the future, promoting climate action, youth employment, and democratic governance.
