Ahead of the 30th Conference of the Parties on climate change (COP 30), Côte d'Ivoire officially launched the third version of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) on Thursday, October 30, 2025, during a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Abidjan-Plateau.
During the event, the Minister of Environment, Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition, Jacques Konan Assahoré, presented the document to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Ivorians Abroad, Léon Kacou Adom, head of the Ivorian delegation to COP 30, which will take place in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025.
The ceremony gathered numerous dignitaries, including diplomats, government officials, private-sector representatives, development partners, and civil society actors.
NDC 3.0 seeks to strengthen and elevate the country's commitments in the fight against climate change, building upon the achievements of the previous versions (2015 and 2022). This new strategic document aims to promote a sustainable, resilient, and low-carbon development model. It serves both as a national planning and financing tool for ecological transition policies and as a commitment to the United Nations climate framework.
“Through these new NDCs, Côte d’Ivoire commits to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 33.07% by 2035, compared to a reference scenario. This represents approximately 52 million tons of CO₂ equivalent,” declared Minister Jacques Assahoré.
The UNDP Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, Blerta Cela, praised the scope and strategic value of the updated NDCs. She reaffirmed the commitment of the UNDP, the United Nations system and development partners to support Côte d’Ivoire in the effective implementation of NDC 3.0, whose overall cost is estimated at 32,926 billion CFA francs.
The NDC 3.0 document will be showcased at the Côte d’Ivoire pavilion — measuring 100 m² — during COP 30 in Belém.
Minister Léon Kacou Adom emphasized that COP 30 represents a pivotal moment for global climate diplomacy and reaffirmed Côte d’Ivoire’s determination to play an active role in the discussions, supported by a strong and experienced delegation.
“Our country will deliver a message of responsibility, solidarity, and advocacy for fair access to climate finance, strengthened support for African countries’ needs, and enhanced international cooperation for clean technology transfer,” he concluded.
