Canada Highlights Its Contribution to Côte d’Ivoire’s Mining Sector During Visit to Ity Mine

The Ity gold mine, operated by Endeavour Mining, welcomed a high-level delegation on 28 February, as the Canadian Ambassador paid a working visit to the site alongside the British Ambassador, John Marshall, and Endeavour Mining’s Country Director in Côte d’Ivoire, Laetitia Gadegbeku Ouattara.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase Canada’s contribution to Côte d’Ivoire’s economic development, particularly through its involvement in the mining sector. This contribution is reflected not only in Canadian expertise and knowledge transfer, but also in a strong commitment to responsible and sustainable mining practices.

“This visit was an opportunity to once again witness Canada’s contribution to Côte d’Ivoire’s economic development, whether through Canadian expertise, knowledge sharing, or our commitment to responsible mining practices,” the Canadian Ambassador said.

Located in western Côte d’Ivoire, Ity is the country’s oldest gold mine and has become one of its largest gold producers. Over the past decade, the mine has undergone significant transformation driven by major investments. As a result, annual gold production has more than quadrupled since 2016, reaching a peak of 343,000 ounces in 2024.

According to projections, production at the Ity mine is expected to remain above 250,000 ounces per year for more than a decade, underlining its strategic importance for Côte d’Ivoire’s mining industry and national economy.

The visit also highlighted the strong partnerships between Côte d’Ivoire, Canada, and the United Kingdom, as well as the role of international investors in supporting economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development in the country.

Through initiatives like those implemented at Ity, Canada continues to reaffirm its commitment to supporting Côte d’Ivoire’s development objectives while promoting high environmental, social, and governance standards in the extractive sector.
