Ghana and Colombia Sign Historic Agreement to Connect Their Ports

Ghana and Colombia have signed a historic agreement to directly connect the Port of Tema in Ghana with the Port of Cartagena in Colombia. The signing took place in Bogotá following successful negotiations, according to officials from both countries.

The agreement establishes direct maritime trade connectivity between the two nations and is expected to strengthen economic exchanges between Africa and Latin America. Authorities from Ghana and Colombia said the partnership will create new opportunities for trade growth and job creation in both regions.

Colombia’s first Afro-Colombian Vice President, Her Excellency Francia Elena Márquez Mina, was praised for her role in promoting the initiative, while Colombian Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio was recognized for her leadership and commitment in bringing the project to fruition.

The maritime corridor across the Atlantic, once a symbol of slavery, is now being presented as a driver of economic development and empowerment, highlighting the historic transformation of this route into a pathway of cooperation and opportunities for the populations of both countries.
