London: Côte d’Ivoire Celebrates 65 Years of Independence with Solemnity and Warmth

Côte d’Ivoire celebrated the 65th anniversary of its independence at the prestigious headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London. Organized by the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in the United Kingdom on September 23, 2025, the ceremony brought together senior British officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and a large Ivorian community eager to share in this symbolic moment.

The guest of honor of the evening was Mrs. Kate Osamor, President of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in the United Kingdom and a member of the executive committee of the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. In her remarks, she recalled her recent visit to Côte d’Ivoire in February 2025, expressing her deep admiration for the progress achieved by the country under the leadership of President Alassane Ouattara. She praised the “remarkable economic and social progress” that positions Côte d’Ivoire as a leading actor in West Africa.

In her speech, the Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire, Her Excellency Mrs. Amani Sara, emphasized the significance of this commemoration, a symbol of collective reflection and a projection toward a serene and prosperous future. She highlighted the country’s regained stability and economic dynamism, fruits of the Head of State’s leadership.

Referring to Ivorian-British cooperation, Mrs. Amani Sara recalled that trade between the two countries has doubled in recent years, rising from £539 million to £1 billion, thanks to the Economic Partnership Agreement signed in October 2020. She expressed her hope to see this cooperation strengthened in strategic sectors such as technical education, vocational training, trade, and fisheries.

The evening continued in a festive atmosphere, featuring artistic performances and a tasting of traditional Ivorian dishes. These convivial moments showcased the cultural wealth of Côte d’Ivoire and sparked enthusiasm among the guests.

On behalf of the Ivorian diaspora, Mr. Beugré Leba, President of the Union of Ivorians in the United Kingdom, expressed his gratitude to the embassy for this initiative, which “reinforces the cohesion and national pride of all Ivorians, even far from their homeland.”

This commemoration in London thus served as a true bridge between Abidjan and London, reaffirming the vitality of bilateral relations and the strength of patriotic spirit within the diaspora.
