Two African countries, Mozambique and Ghana, have announced their withdrawal from the Africa Energies Summit, scheduled to take place in London from May 12 to 14, 2026.
According to official statements, the withdrawals are due to a lack of representation of African stakeholders in the organization and leadership of the event. Both countries argue that, although the summit is presented as focused on Africa, it does not sufficiently consider the interests and voices of the African nations themselves.
Mozambique was the first country to pull out, followed by Ghana, marking a trend of protest among some of the continent’s energy-producing nations. This movement underscores the tensions surrounding the organization of international energy summits involving Africa and reflects the desire of certain states to ensure more balanced representation and decision-making power for the continent.
