On January 23, 2025, His Excellency Mr. Anderson Blanc, Ambassador of Canada to Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia, along with Mrs. Susan Steffen, Director General for West Africa and the Maghreb at Global Affairs Canada, visited Korhogo, a city in the northern part of Côte d'Ivoire. This visit provided a significant opportunity to deepen collaboration in the framework of the "Resilience Nord-Est" project, which focuses on empowering adolescents and young girls in the region.
The visit was a powerful reminder of the commitment Canada, UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Women, and Action Against Hunger have made to champion the rights of vulnerable adolescents and young girls. Their support for this project has been instrumental in enhancing access to education, improving healthcare, and promoting gender equality in the northern Ivorian region.
The "Resilience Nord-Est" project is a pivotal initiative aimed at strengthening the resilience of adolescents and young girls, equipping them with the necessary tools and opportunities to thrive. With a focus on protecting their rights and empowering them to overcome the challenges they face, the project brings together key partners such as UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Women, and Action Against Hunger, alongside the Canadian government, in a collective effort to make a lasting impact.
During their visit, Ambassador Blanc and Mrs. Steffen toured several community-based initiatives, witnessing firsthand the positive changes brought about by the collaboration of these international partners. The visit highlighted the vital role of strong partnerships between international organizations and local communities to address the unique needs of young people in this region.
UNICEF, in particular, expressed its gratitude for the continued support from Canada and its partners. Their joint efforts are helping to ensure that the rights of adolescents and young girls in Côte d'Ivoire are protected, their voices heard, and their futures brightened.
This visit marked an important milestone in the ongoing journey to improve the lives of young people in Côte d'Ivoire and further solidifies the shared commitment to creating a world where all children and youth can realize their full potential.
