The 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, marking the 69th edition of this prestigious individual award, according to L'Équipe.
The list of male and female nominees will be revealed during the first half of August. The 2025 edition will mark a turning point in terms of gender equality: all trophies originally reserved for men will now have a women's equivalent, including awards for Best Goalkeeper, Best Young Player, and Top Scorer.
Organized by France Football, the Ballon d’Or is based on a voting process involving 100 journalists for the men's category and 50 for the women's, each representing a country from the FIFA Top 100 (Top 50 for the women's category). Each voter ranks their top 10 players, awarding points based on their position. The winner is the player with the highest total score.
Since 2024, votes have been based on three main criteria: individual performance (impact, consistency, decisive actions), collective performance (titles won with club or national team), and fair play and elegance on the field. Career achievements are no longer considered in the evaluation process.
