Abidjan Bypass Road (Y4): 80% Completion on the Ebimpé-Nord Highway Section

The Minister of Equipment and Road Maintenance, Amédé Koffi Kouakou, during a visit to the construction site of the Abidjan Bypass Road (Y4) on Thursday, March 6, 2025, expressed satisfaction that the work on the section of approximately 13 kilometers from Ebimpé to the Nord Highway, and a further kilometer, is 80% complete.

"On this section, we have nine structures, six of which are complete. Of the three that are not finished, one is facing some critical issues, namely the structure on the Nord Highway. Inside the Nord Highway, where the grassy areas are, there is a pipeline passing through. We can no longer build the bridge as originally planned. We are forced to remove all the support in the middle and move to a much longer bridge," said the minister.

He added, "This can only be done with metallic components that will come from China. Initially, this section was supposed to be completed by the end of June. But with these constraints, we are working with the company to ensure that the entire route is completed by August or September."

As for the final section, which spans approximately 15 kilometers from one kilometer beyond the Nord Highway to the Jacqueville intersection, the work completion rate is at 48%, stated Amédé Koffi Kouakou: "Work is progressing. We believe that by the end of this year, or early next year, the entire route will be finished. So, for someone coming from Ebimpé and heading to Jacqueville, they will no longer have to enter Abidjan, they will be able to take this bypass highway."

In addition to four pedestrian bridges, three of which are already completed and the fourth under construction at the Bimbresso intersection, the minister highlighted that six other pedestrian bridges will be built along the route up to the Songon-Jacqueville junction on the Dabou road (which in some areas is 2x3 lanes or 2x2 lanes) to allow the population to cross the Y4 highway safely and easily.

For the record, the Y4 road stretches from the Coffi Gadeau Boulevard (formerly Mitterrand) to the Ebimpé Stadium, passing through the Alépé road junction. It has two additional sections that continue to the Songon junction, heading toward Jacqueville, crossing the Nord Highway
