Sidi Tiémoko Touré, Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, praised the spotlight placed on the "tremendous growth potential of the blue economy" during the closing ceremony of the Selab Fisheries Expo 2025, held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire in Cocody.
Described by the organizers as a must-attend event for all stakeholders in the fishing and aquaculture sectors, this first edition was themed: "Sustainable Development of Fisheries and Aquaculture: What Policies and Strategies?"
“This forum has highlighted the tremendous growth potential that the blue economy represents for Côte d'Ivoire,” declared the Minister of Fisheries Resources. He emphasized that the blue economy offers innovative investment opportunities in fishing, aquaculture, coastal tourism, and marine energy, while also promoting the protection of aquatic ecosystems.
The Minister further stated that the conclusions and recommendations resulting from the discussions are crucial milestones that the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources is committed to integrating into its future policies and actions.
Speaking on behalf of Interpêche's Executive Directorate, Coulibaly Aboudramane expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Minister for his "unwavering support, which reflects the State’s commitment to our sector."
Maurice Sawadogo, President of the Aquaculture sector, announced that within five years, aquaculture will supply 67,000 tons of products to the Ivorian market, with at least 60% youth involvement to ensure generational renewal.
In her closing remarks, Anta Mariam d'Almeida, Commissioner General of the Selab Fisheries Expo 2025, expressed her gratitude to the Minister, institutional and financial partners, and all participants for their contribution to the success of the event.
During the closing ceremony, two panel discussions were held on the topics: "Contribution of Fisheries Products to Food and Nutritional Security" and "Fishing for Tomorrow: Striking a Balance Between Sustainability and Performance", along with a masterclass on "Economics of Fisheries Products: Valorization and Marketing."
The second edition of the Selab Fisheries Expo is scheduled for 2027. However, before that, in 2026, the International Livestock Show will take place.
The blue economy is a concept that seeks to sustainably and responsibly harness oceanic and aquatic resources, while promoting economic development, social inclusion, and environmental conservation.
