African Statistical System: Minister Nialé Kaba Urges Stakeholders to Find Solutions for Improving Statistical Quality

Abidjan, September 16, 2024 – During the symposium on national accounts held in Abidjan-Plateau, the Minister of Economy, Planning, and Development, Nialé Kaba, called on African nations' statistical systems to adopt solutions that improve data quality. The symposium was part of the second Pan-African Statistical Program funded by the European Union.

In her address, Nialé Kaba emphasized the importance of strengthening and modernizing statistical data production to provide high-quality, up-to-date statistics. She noted that reliable statistics are crucial for making informed decisions when developing, monitoring, and evaluating policies and strategies. "Our countries must find appropriate solutions to enhance the production of routine statistics and surveys, and strengthening the capacities of national accounts units is a significant challenge," she stated.

Adoum Gagoloum, representing the African Union Commission and head of Statafric's Economic Statistics Division, highlighted the need for regular production of national accounts in line with international standards to support decision-makers.

The two-day event, themed "Innovative Solutions for Reliable National Accounts Aligned with International Standards," brought together key stakeholders from African countries’ national statistical systems.
