Promotion of the Extractive Industry: Minister Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly Concludes His Mission in Washington with Positive Results

Côte d’Ivoire has strengthened its appeal to financial institutions, investors, and U.S. policymakers during the successful roadshow led by Minister Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly.

This roadshow allowed Minister Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly to open strategic discussions on key projects, both with private companies and financing institutions, aimed at supporting the growth of Côte d’Ivoire’s extractive sector.

On March 18th, at the U.S. State Department, the Minister showcased the potential of Côte d’Ivoire’s subsoil, presenting the country’s geological map and highlighting its ambitions to rank among the top five oil producers on the continent and to become Africa’s leading gold producer within the next decade.

The day before, the Ivorian delegation held a series of strategic meetings with EXIM Bank, the U.S. Export-Import Bank, and the Development Finance Corporation (DFC), a U.S. government agency specializing in development financing. The goal was to mobilize funds to support American companies interested in the Ivorian market, as well as to finance critical infrastructure essential for the growth of the extractive sector.

Alongside these institutional discussions, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly also engaged with the American business community during a roundtable organized at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business federation. The objective was to present investment opportunities in Côte d’Ivoire and accelerate ongoing discussions with several American companies.

Côte d’Ivoire seeks to secure financing not only for economically profitable projects but also for structural infrastructure that will modernize the entire value chain of the mining and oil industries. The Minister recalled that Côte d’Ivoire’s oil production, currently at 60,000 barrels per day thanks to the Baleine field, could surpass 200,000 barrels per day by 2027. Meanwhile, the mining industry is experiencing accelerated growth.
