The President of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF), Yacine Idriss Diallo, has added a new honor to his distinguished career. A prominent figure in Ivorian sports, he was officially appointed Honorary Consul of the Bahamas in Côte d’Ivoire on October 21, 2025, according to Fratmat.info.
This appointment marks a recognition that extends beyond the realm of football, celebrating his leadership, commitment, and international influence.
The official handover ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Bahamas, in the presence of Hon. Frederick Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who commended the appointment. He emphasized that the decision reflects the Bahamian government’s intent to strengthen its diplomatic presence in West Africa, particularly in Côte d’Ivoire — a country known for its political stability and economic vitality.
Discussions between Minister Mitchell and the newly appointed Consul focused on several areas of cooperation, including economy, agriculture, tourism, and sports, with the shared goal of building a mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations.
“The Bahamas, a hub of Caribbean tourism, and Côte d’Ivoire, an economic powerhouse of West Africa, have much to gain from closer collaboration,” said Minister Mitchell.
For his part, Yacine Idriss Diallo expressed gratitude and resolve:
“I am deeply aware of the responsibility entrusted to me by the Bahamian government. My ambition is to bring our two nations closer and to open new avenues of cooperation for the benefit of our peoples.”
Following the ceremony, the new Consul was received by Prime Minister Hon. Philip A. Davis for a cordial and constructive meeting, underscoring the spirit of friendship between Abidjan and Nassau.
With this appointment, relations between Côte d’Ivoire and the Bahamas enter a new phase — one grounded in economic diplomacy, cultural cooperation, and sports exchange.
