Germany Reaffirms Security Cooperation with Côte d’Ivoire During Visit Focused on Counterterrorism Efforts

The State Minister at the German Federal Foreign Office, Serap Güler, carried out her first official visit to Côte d’Ivoire since her appointment in May 2025 on Monday, May 11, during which she held two key meetings.

She met with Téné Birahima Ouattara, and with Adama Dosso. Both sides highlighted the excellent bilateral relations between Germany and Côte d’Ivoire.

The German minister also visited the International Counterterrorism Academy (AILCT), which is supported by Germany. Given the terrorist threat and instability in the Sahel region, both parties stressed the need for close and sustained cooperation to prevent the spread of terrorist groups into Gulf of Guinea coastal states, while also addressing the structural causes of violence and extremism.

Ms. Güler assured Ivorian authorities and AILCT representatives that Germany will continue to support Côte d’Ivoire and the wider region in the fight against terrorism.
