Ghana has secured $1.7 billion to finance the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway, one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects under the government’s “Big Push” programme.
The funds have been mobilized to support the development of the 176-kilometre highway, a strategic transport corridor connecting Ghana’s two major economic centres, Accra and Kumasi.
The project aims to improve road connectivity, reduce travel times, ease congestion, lower transportation costs and strengthen trade flows across the country.
The Accra-Kumasi Expressway is a flagship component of the “Big Push Infrastructure Programme”, an initiative designed to accelerate investment in major infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges and other strategic assets.
The government expects the highway to boost economic activity, improve access to markets and create new opportunities for businesses and communities along the corridor.
Once completed, the expressway is expected to play a key role in Ghana’s transport network by strengthening links between the southern part of the country and the Ashanti Region, while supporting Ghana’s ambition to become a more competitive trade hub in West Africa.
