Presidential Election in Côte d’Ivoire: Former President Laurent Gbagbo Meets With Opposition Figures

In Côte d’Ivoire, following the rejection of his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election, former president Laurent Gbagbo hosted several opposition leaders on September 10, 2025. Among them was Pascal Affi N’Guessan, leader of the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI).

“It was primarily a first meeting to establish contact,” said one participant, without revealing the content of the discussions.

More such meetings are expected to take place in the near future.

Meanwhile, members of Gbagbo’s party, the African Peoples' Party – Côte d'Ivoire (PPA-CI), continue to support their leader’s candidacy. “We will continue the peaceful political struggle against a fourth term [of outgoing President Alassane Ouattara, editor’s note] and do everything we can to ensure our rights are respected,” said Sébastien Dano Djédjé, Executive President of the PPA-CI, during a press briefing on Tuesday evening.
