Côte d’Ivoire asserted its dominance over Algeria with a 2–0 victory this Wednesday in the first leg of a two-match friendly series ahead of the upcoming U17 World Cup.
In preparation for the FIFA U17 World Cup, scheduled from November 3 to 27 in Qatar, the Ivory Coast U17 team faced Algeria at the Bingerville Sports Complex in Abidjan for the first encounter, with the return leg set for Sunday on the same pitch.
The Elephanteaux opened the scoring in the 16th minute following a high press near the Algerian box. Around the hour mark, Broulaye Cissé sealed the victory for his side.
In fine form, the young striker, served perfectly through the middle by Alynho Haïdara—top scorer of the last U17 AFCON—curled the ball beautifully into the right corner past Marseille goalkeeper Ivan Scander Guemdani (59').
This win adds to the positive momentum of Bassiriky Diabaté’s squad, who recently qualified for the U17 AFCON after defeating Burkina Faso (2–1) and then clinching the West African qualifiers title against Ghana (0–0, 4–3 on penalties).
Meanwhile, their U20 counterparts, not participating in the ongoing World Cup in Chile, will aim to follow their lead on Thursday when they take on Algeria in the first leg of their own friendly series—also at Bingerville, with the return match on Monday
