Bringing Hope to Children with Heart Defects: The Mission of Sainte-Justine au Cœur du Monde

Sainte-Justine au Coeur du Monde is a Canadian medical foundation which provides free medical care to children who suffer from heart defects.

The foundation operates within developing countries and uses the opportunity of these missions to share essential knowledge with local teams to sustainably strengthen the host country's medical capacities. Some of the past missions took place in Egypt, Senegal, Ethiopia, and Morocco.

The medical team is led by Drs. Joaquim Miró, Nancy Poirier, and Marie-Josée Raboisson, ensuring comprehensive expertise in cardiac surgery and catheterization. For each mission, the foundation assembles teams of 10 to 25 volunteers from around the world, all driven by a shared commitment to support children and assist local medical teams.

Since its first mission in 2005, more than a thousand patients who suffered from heart defects have been treated.

In Fall 2024, the foundation traveled for the first time in Abidjan in order to make initial contact with the local teams. This trip was conducted with the help and collaboration of the Mitrelli group.

In 2025, Sainte-Justine au Cœur du Monde has planned missions in three countries. The first will take place in the spring in Côte d’Ivoire, at the Abidjan Heart Institute, followed by missions in Senegal and Morocco.
