2025 Edition of World Coconut Day: The Government Reaffirms Its Commitment to Building a Competitive and Sustainable Sector
On the occasion of the 2025 edition of World Coconut Day, commemorated on September 2 in Abidjan, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Crops, Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working towards a competitive and sustainable coconut sector.
“The government, through my ministry, wishes to reaffirm its commitment to building a competitive and sustainable sector. To this end, we call for a synergy of action among all national stakeholders and urge all technical and financial partners to support the Ivorian State’s ambition,” said Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani.
This 2025 edition, held under the theme "Unleashing the potential of the coconut to inspire global action," aims to highlight the contribution of coconut to human health and its socio-economic importance for producers worldwide.
According to the Minister, the coconut sector generates over 9 billion CFA francs in revenue in Côte d’Ivoire, with a potential of 60 billion CFA francs when considering exports of coconut-derived products. It remains an important crop for coastal populations and a powerful lever for improving the livelihoods of value chain actors.
Furthermore, he reminded that Côte d’Ivoire is the leading exporter of coconut products and by-products in Africa. Building on this potential and in view of the challenges to be met for the well-being of sector stakeholders, President Alassane Ouattara, by ordinance of February 12, 2025, extended the powers of the Rubber-Palm Oil Council to include the coconut sector, aiming to boost a new dynamic in the industry.
