On Friday, January 10, 2025, during the official opening of the 3rd Japan-Côte d'Ivoire Conference on Quality Infrastructure in Abidjan-Plateau, Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé called on both technical and financial partners, including those from Japan, as well as the national and international private sector, to play a greater role in funding and implementing Côte d'Ivoire's infrastructure projects.
"We aspire to go even further, particularly in the field of infrastructure. Foreign investors and the local private sector will find in our country a healthy and attractive business environment, a secure situation, and most importantly, a government that listens and works tirelessly to remove any obstacles to the growth of private sector activities," said Robert Beugré Mambé.
According to the Prime Minister, the quality of infrastructure depends on several key pillars. These include a clear and dynamic vision for the country's development, the quality of forward-looking studies that define priorities, the relevance of development plans, and the thoroughness of studies, as well as the attention to detail and quality in project oversight.
He also emphasized the importance of maintenance and upkeep tools based on continuous and accurate diagnostics, the consideration of natural disasters, and the impact of climate change-related catastrophes.
Japanese Deputy Minister for Territory Administration, Transport, Infrastructure, and Tourism, Furukawa Yasushi, affirmed that Japanese companies possess the necessary technology, capabilities, and experience to address the challenges faced by Côte d'Ivoire.
"Our country has undergone significant economic changes with the development of infrastructure. I am confident that Japan will be of great assistance. Infrastructure is a cornerstone of a country or region's prosperity. It maximizes the impact of growth through technology and know-how transfer and the development of local industries," he said.
This conference comes shortly after the successful organization of the Japan-Africa Public-Private Economic Forum, held from December 16-17, 2024, in Abidjan. Several Ivorian ministers were present, including the Minister of Equipment and Road Maintenance, Amédé Koffi Kouakou, and the President of the Japan-Africa Infrastructure Development Association (JAIDA), Miyamoto Yoichi.
