The total volume of cargo handled at the Autonomous Port of Abidjan reached over 40 million tons in 2024, compared to 34.7 million tons in 2023, marking a 15.6% increase. This announcement was made by the Director General of the Port, Yacouba Hien Sié, on Friday, September 5, 2025, during a press conference held at the port's headquarters to announce the commemoration of its 75th anniversary.

Container traffic also saw significant growth, rising by 33% from 1,238,195 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2023 to 1,646,304 TEUs in 2024.

Since 2012, approximately 1,100 billion CFA francs, or around 1.7 billion euros, have been invested in major infrastructure projects at the port. These projects include the widening and deepening of the Vridi Canal, the commissioning of a second container terminal (TC2), the construction of a roll-on/roll-off terminal, the modernization of the fishing port to accommodate large trawlers, the development of an additional 40 hectares of industrial land, and the construction of a grain terminal.

Between 2010 and 2024, total port traffic grew from 22 million to 40 million tons. In 2024, the Port of Abidjan accounted for 75.23% of Côte d’Ivoire’s total external trade volume, 78.88% of customs revenues, and 42.31% of the country’s industrial base, according to the Port Authority.

Established in 1951, the Port of Abidjan remains the country's main maritime hub. It serves as a regional center for transit and transshipment, a major fishing port, and a strategic industrial zone.
