Abidjan, a Major Tuna Hub in West Africa

Abidjan is establishing itself as one of the main centers for the tuna industry in West Africa, thanks to the activity of its fishing terminal, which handles large volumes of seafood, including a significant portion of tuna. Over 350,000 tonnes of tuna are processed there annually, making the port a strategic point for this marine resource.

The Abidjan fishing terminal benefits from infrastructure dedicated to both industrial and artisanal fishing, as well as to the processing of products, particularly tuna for international markets.

Côte d’Ivoire ranks among the world’s leading tuna exporters. According to official data, the country is the second largest exporter of tuna globally, just behind Japan, highlighting the importance of this product to the Ivorian economy.

Tuna is also the country’s top seafood export, generating significant annual revenue for the national economy. While exact figures may vary, the sector’s performance clearly contributes to the country’s foreign trade.

This achievement is part of the broader role of the Autonomous Port of Abidjan, which remains a key logistical hub for the region, with growing traffic and ongoing investments to strengthen its competitiveness.
