African Statistics Day 2025: Côte d’Ivoire Reaffirms Commitment to a Modern and Inclusive Statistical System

On the occasion of the 35th African Statistics Day (ASD), celebrated on November 18, 2025, Côte d’Ivoire reaffirmed its commitment to the central role of data in planning and development.

In an official statement, the Minister of Economy, Planning, and Development, Nialé Kaba, emphasized the strategic importance of statistics in building a fairer, more peaceful, and inclusive society.

According to Minister Kaba, these tools are powerful levers for producing more reliable, relevant, and disaggregated data, capable of effectively guiding the formulation and monitoring of public policies.

The Minister recalled that, under the strong leadership of President Alassane Ouattara, the Ivorian government has initiated since 2020 a comprehensive reform of the national statistical system. Beyond institutional reform, Côte d’Ivoire has committed to integrating digital technologies across its governance framework. Artificial intelligence, biometric systems, mobile data analysis, and digital identification tools now strengthen financial inclusion, improve access to social services, and facilitate administrative procedures.

She called on all actors within the National Statistical System, policymakers, and development partners to continue working together toward the modernization of the national statistical tool. She also expressed the government’s determination to have an efficient system capable of sustainably supporting Côte d’Ivoire’s emergence.

Established in May 1990 by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, African Statistics Day aims to raise awareness among African states on the need to use reliable data in public decision-making.
