Bafing Food Security: Major Soy, Maize, and Wheat Production and Processing Project Launched
A major project for the production and processing of soy, maize, and wheat was launched on Monday, December 22, 2025, in Mahou-Sokourala, in the Touba department (Bafing region), with the aim of achieving food self-sufficiency.
This structuring project is part of the implementation of the second-generation National Agricultural Investment Program (PNIA), aiming to modernize agriculture, strengthen food sovereignty, and create sustainable economic opportunities for local populations, particularly young people and women.
The project offers a sustainable solution to many challenges and aims to establish a structured agro-industrial hub in Mahou-Sokourala, based on two complementary pillars.
Dinard Kouakou Yao, Regional Prefect and Prefect of the Touba department, representing the Minister of State and Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food Crops, Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani, praised the significant quantitative and qualitative progress as well as the dynamism shown by the agricultural sector through the implementation of the PNIA.
“The implementation of the PNIA promotes partnerships between the State and the private sector, as well as innovative projects focused on wealth creation and food security,” he said.
Local residents, represented by Mamadou Touré, President of the Mahou-Sokourala Cooperative, welcomed the launch of the project and expressed their hopes for its success. “We are very happy today and sincerely hope that the benefits will be tangible and real, in terms of infrastructure, youth and women employment, improvement of living conditions, and the well-being of the population,” he emphasized.
