Baleine Oil Field Development Phase 2: Crude Oil Production Expected to Reach 60,000 Barrels Per Day, Up from 35,000 Forecasted
The government spokesperson, Amadou Coulibaly, announced that crude oil production from Phase 2 of the Baleine oil field will reach 50,000 to 60,000 barrels per day, compared to the initial forecast of 35,000. This announcement was made following the Council of Ministers meeting on January 15, 2025, in Abidjan.
As for natural gas, production is expected to be between 50 and 60 million cubic feet per day, exceeding the initial forecast of 40 to 60 million cubic feet per day (a performance improvement of 25% to 50%).
The combined production from both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Baleine is projected to reach a total of 75,000 to 85,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 80 to 85 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Data collected from the operations of Phases 1 and 2 will help refine the studies for Phase 3, with the final investment decision expected by the end of 2025. The expected production from Phase 3 should raise total output from the Baleine field to 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 200 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
These performances at the Baleine field will boost the national hydrocarbon production to between 82,000 and 92,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 315 to 320 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
By 2028, national hydrocarbon production is expected to reach 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 450 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. This major advancement underscores Côte d'Ivoire’s commitment to positioning the extractive and energy sectors as drivers of sustained and sustainable growth.
It should be noted that on December 28, 2024, ENI Côte d'Ivoire Limited and its partner PETROCI Holding successfully began production from Phase 2 of the Baleine oil field, in line with the development schedule approved by the government for the adjacent blocks CI-101 and CI-802.
