Côte d’Ivoire expects its state budget to grow steadily over the next three years, reaching 22.3 trillion CFA francs ($38 billion) by 2029, as the government seeks to sustain economic growth while maintaining macroeconomic stability.
Government spokesperson and Minister of Communication Amadou Coulibaly announced the projections on Wednesday following a Cabinet meeting in Abidjan.
According to the government's medium-term budget and economic programming document for 2027-2029, the state budget is expected to increase from 17.35 trillion CFA francs in 2026 to 18.47 trillion CFA francs in 2027, representing a 6.4% rise. The budget is then projected to reach 20.49 trillion CFA francs in 2028 before climbing to 22.32 trillion CFA francs in 2029.
Coulibaly said the Cabinet approved the multi-year budget framework in accordance with the country's 2014 organic law governing public finance management.
The document outlines the government's fiscal and economic priorities, as well as its objectives for maintaining budgetary and financial balance over the next three years.
"The framework is based on an average annual real GDP growth forecast of 6.8% over the 2027-2029 period," Coulibaly said, noting that the projection takes into account the resilience of the Ivorian economy despite external political and trade-related uncertainties.
The government plans to continue pursuing a fiscal policy focused on strengthening domestic revenue mobilization through its Medium-Term Revenue Mobilization Strategy for 2024-2028.
Authorities also intend to rationalize public spending, maintain prudent debt management, increase structural investments and support programs aimed at poverty reduction and climate resilience.
The West African nation has been one of the region's fastest-growing economies over the past decade, driven by strong investment, infrastructure development and economic diversification efforts.
Through its multi-year budget strategy, the government aims to preserve robust economic growth while reinforcing the country's macroeconomic fundamentals and supporting long-term sustainable development.
