Abidjan, November 27, 2024 – Côte d’Ivoire and the European Union (EU) have solidified their partnership by signing five financing agreements worth a total of €112 million (approximately 74 billion FCFA). These agreements aim to support Côte d’Ivoire in key sectors such as sustainable development, security, natural resource management, energy transition, and migration management.

The agreements were signed by the Minister of Finance and Budget, Adama Coulibaly, and the EU Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Francesca Di Mauro, during a ceremony in Abidjan-Plateau.

The agreements include:

  1. Contract for Sustainable Development Goals – Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in Côte d’Ivoire (CODD-CID-CI): This €50 million (32.79 billion FCFA) budgetary support program underpins reforms undertaken by Côte d’Ivoire in line with its 2021-2025 National Development Plan, fostering inclusive and sustainable growth.
  2. Program for Supporting Sustainable Forestry and Agro-Food Systems in Côte d’Ivoire (PASSAD): Allocated €22 million (14.43 billion FCFA), this program focuses on sustainable forestry management and food safety within the framework of a sustainable agro-food system.
  3. Support Project for Green Energy Production (PAPEV): This €15 million (9.84 billion FCFA) initiative promotes Côte d’Ivoire’s energy transition by supporting renewable energy-based electricity production.
  4. Program on Combating Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing, and Violent Extremism Prevention: With a budget of €15 million (9.84 billion FCFA), this program enhances national security and governance by tackling illicit financial flows.
  5. Migration Management Program: Funded at €10 million (6.56 billion FCFA), this program addresses migration challenges through mechanisms for sustainable reintegration of voluntary returnees, including those returning from Europe. It also incorporates gender and human rights-based approaches to strengthen host communities’ capacity.

Minister Adama Coulibaly expressed Côte d’Ivoire’s gratitude for the EU’s substantial financial support, highlighting its critical role in advancing the nation’s development goals.

EU Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro emphasized that these agreements symbolize the strength and depth of the partnership between Côte d’Ivoire and the EU. She underscored the EU’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth and addressing shared global challenges through strategic cooperation.
