Côte d’Ivoire: Minister Nialé Kaba Strengthens Economic Ties with Two Major Financial Institutions
Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Nialé Kaba, led the Ivorian delegation to the 2025 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, recently held in Washington, D.C. During this high-level event, the minister held bilateral discussions with the Africa Directors of both institutions to reinforce economic cooperation, according to an official statement released on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
In her meeting with Abebe Aemro Selassie, Director of the IMF’s African Department, discussions focused on Côte d’Ivoire’s recent economic performance, medium-term growth outlook, and ongoing structural reforms aimed at enhancing economic resilience and competitiveness.
Minister Kaba outlined the key priorities of the government’s economic policy, emphasizing sustained efforts to maintain macroeconomic stability, curb inflation, and accelerate the implementation of the National Development Plan (PND) 2026–2030.
Mr. Selassie commended the strength of Côte d’Ivoire’s economic fundamentals, the quality of dialogue between Ivorian authorities and the IMF, and the significant progress achieved in reform implementation. He reaffirmed the IMF’s commitment to supporting the country through tailored programs and financial instruments aligned with national priorities.
The meeting took place in a spirit of mutual trust and partnership, reflecting a shared determination to deepen cooperation in support of inclusive and sustainable economic development.
On the sidelines of the Annual Meetings, Minister Kaba also met with Ousmane Diagana, Vice President of the World Bank for Western and Central Africa. The discussions reviewed the progress of World Bank–supported projects in Côte d’Ivoire and outlined future steps to strengthen collaboration. Mr. Diagana praised the country’s achievements and reiterated the Bank’s commitment to continuing its support for Côte d’Ivoire’s development agenda.
The Ivorian delegation, which included Ministers Nialé Kaba and Adama Coulibaly, also met with Côte d’Ivoire’s Executive Director at the IMF, in the presence of Ibrahim Touré, the country’s Ambassador to the United States.
