Abidjan, August 5, 2025 – The Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, presided over the signing ceremony of the Tongon Solar Convention on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in Abidjan-Plateau. The agreement concerns the construction of a 52 MWp photovoltaic solar power plant in M'Bengué, located in the Poro region. The plant is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2027.

"I commend the rigorous and collaborative work of the public and private teams that made this convention possible. This project strengthens the government's current momentum, following the signing of solar power agreements in Bondoukou in 2023, and Ferkessédougou, Kong, and Katiola in 2024," said the minister.

He emphasized that the 2026–2030 Emergency Energy Plan, developed to meet the rapid growth in electricity demand and ensure financial stability in the energy sector, includes a rapid increase in national production capacity — from 150 MW in 2026 to 2,570 MW by 2030, across all energy sources.

“The contribution of new solar power plants will grow from 42 MW in 2026 to 925 MW in 2030. The Tongon Solar project is among the key solar initiatives within this accelerated strategy,” he added.

Abdul Soukpafolo Koné, General Administrator of Tongon Solaire, stated that the project will provide electricity to 30,000 households, generate around 90 Gigawatt-hours annually, create 500 direct and indirect jobs, and reduce CO₂ emissions by 39,000 tonnes per year.

He expressed pride in the company's selection:
“That a 100% Ivorian company has been entrusted with such a major project—estimated at 33 billion CFA francs—is not only a source of pride but also a tremendous responsibility. It reflects a strong political will to trust local human capital and build national champions capable of meeting 21st-century challenges.”
