Mining: Cooperation in the Extractive Sector – Sangafowa-Coulibaly Received by Botswana’s Vice President

Côte d’Ivoire and Botswana are laying the groundwork for a strategic mining partnership built on expertise transfer and responsible resource governance. The ambition is driven by Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, who is committed to developing a strong local extractive industry aligned with international best practices and positioned as a catalyst for sustainable development.

Cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and Botswana has reached a strategic milestone, with both countries expressing a clear intention to structure a long-term partnership in the mining sector. During a working visit to Gaborone, Minister Sangafowa-Coulibaly was received on February 18 by Botswana’s Vice President, Ndaba Gaolathe.

“This mission is driven by the vision of Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, which is to make our extractive sector a lever of prosperity, following the example of Botswana, widely recognized around the world for its success,” the Ivorian minister stated at the outset of the meeting.

The high-level discussions highlighted a shared commitment to cooperation focused on extractive resource governance, skills transfer, and the development of an integrated mining value chain. This engagement comes at a time when Abidjan is accelerating efforts to transform its mineral potential into a structured, competitive, and development-oriented industry.
