Mining: UK-based company makes major gold discovery in Doropo, with production capacity of over 100 tons
Resolute Mining, a UK-based mining company operating in Senegal and Mali, has made a major gold discovery in Doropo, in the northern part of Côte d’Ivoire. The newly discovered mine has an estimated production capacity of over 100 tons.
The announcement was made by Chris Eger, CEO of Resolute Mining, during a meeting with Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé on Monday, June 16, 2025, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Abidjan-Plateau. He stated that construction of the mine will begin in the first quarter of 2026, with a projected timeline of two years, and will require an investment of 300 billion CFA francs.
“After construction, we will begin operations in Doropo, and we estimate the mine will have a lifespan of over twenty years. We’ve divided the project into two phases. The launch of the first phase will generate nearly 300 billion CFA francs in tax revenue for the country,” Chris Eger announced.
According to the CEO, Resolute Mining has a budget of nearly 120 billion CFA francs for additional projects and operations across Côte d’Ivoire:
“This is our first operation, and we plan to do more — a second, a third, maybe even a fourth. For us, Doropo is a very important site.”
He expressed gratitude to President Alassane Ouattara, Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé, and the entire government for their support:
“Thanks to the reforms implemented in the country, we were able to invest in Côte d’Ivoire. We operate in many parts of Africa, but today, for our company, our shareholders, and our investors, Côte d’Ivoire is the number one country for mining investment. We are very happy with the work done and the communication with the government.”
Prime Minister Beugré Mambé welcomed the news and emphasized that mining, oil, and energy are key pillars of Côte d’Ivoire’s development strategy.
