Port of Abidjan: 2025 Performance Confirms Regional Competitiveness
The Port of Abidjan recorded a historic performance in 2025, with a net total cargo throughput of 46.9 million tonnes, up 17% compared to 2024. Gross throughput reached 50.6 million tonnes, a 15.9% increase over the previous year. These figures confirm the port’s role as a major logistics hub in West Africa.
The growth was primarily driven by domestic cargo, which reached 34.4 million tonnes, up 20.7%, reflecting the dynamism of the Ivorian economy. Container traffic continued to rise, reaching 1.7 million TEUs, surpassing the symbolic one million TEU mark for the second consecutive year.
Transit to the hinterland also showed strong recovery (+34.9%), particularly to Mali (+83.1%) and Burkina Faso (+15%), highlighting the port’s competitiveness on regional corridors. Transshipment experienced a slight decline (-1.3%) amid intensified competition among West African hubs.
Since 2012, more than 1,000 billion FCFA have been invested in modernizing port infrastructure, increasing productivity, and aligning facilities with international standards. Port authorities say these investments have strengthened the port’s resilience and attractiveness.
Looking ahead, the port aims to reach 2 million TEUs by 2027, consolidating its position as a reference logistics hub on Africa’s Atlantic coast.
The 2025 results demonstrate the port’s ability to adapt to a complex geopolitical environment, marked by regional competition and changes in global supply chains, while remaining a reliable indicator of the country’s economic vitality.
