Road Infrastructure: Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé Inspects Progress on Abidjan Bypass Route
Following the completion of the first section of the Abidjan bypass route (Y4), which facilitated the smooth hosting of AFCON 2023 in January and February 2024, Ivorian Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé visited a 30-kilometer stretch of this road infrastructure on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
The ongoing work includes two major projects: the development of Section 2 of the Y4 Abidjan Peripheral Highway (Anyama Interchange–Northern Highway) and Section 3 (Northern Highway–Dabou Road).
According to the Prime Minister, these projects have created over 500 jobs, with nearly 97% held by young Ivorians. “This is an opportunity for Ivorian youth to gain experience in civil engineering, contributing to a significant national asset,” he stated.
Robert Beugré Mambé emphasized that the completion of the Y4, scheduled for October 2025, will greatly ease traffic congestion and boost economic activity by significantly reducing travel times. “The Y4 will streamline traffic. For instance, someone in Bingerville heading to Yamoussoukro will no longer need to pass through all of Abidjan. They can simply take the Y4 to connect to the Northern Highway and continue their journey,” he explained.
During the visit, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the President of the National Assembly, Adama Bictogo, who also serves as the Mayor of Yopougon, as well as the Minister of Equipment and Road Maintenance, Amédé Koffi Kouakou, and the Minister of Construction, Housing, and Urban Planning, Bruno Nabagné Koné.
