Support Project for the Government's Social Program: A Manioc Processing Unit Enhances the Lives of the People of Tiassalé

Originally set up on a private plot in the "Plateau" neighborhood of N'Douci in the Tiassalé department, the Sanata group produced attiéké under precarious conditions. Since 2023, this group, primarily composed of women, has benefited from a semi-industrial manioc processing unit as part of the Government's Social Program 2 (PSGouv2).

Located in the "Bacabo Manguier" neighborhood in a clean environment, the processing unit includes, among other equipment, a grinder with a capacity of 1,500 tons per hour, 14 presses, 32 basins, a semolina machine, a dehydrator, a spinner, a cooker, and a dryer. This unit enabled the Sanata group to produce more than 1,275,000 kg of attiéké in 2023 from 2,771,000 kg of purchased manioc. In 2024, the amount of manioc purchased increased by over one million kg, and the production of attiéké saw an almost 50% increase, reaching 1,847,000 kg. Sanata's revenue nearly doubled, growing from 255 million FCFA in 2023 to 554.1 million FCFA in 2024.

On Friday, January 25, 2025, a significant delegation from the African Development Bank (AfDB), led by the Vice-President for Agriculture, Human and Social Development, Dr. Beth Dunford, accompanied by a team from PA-PSGouv and CICG, visited the unit. During the visit, Sanata Coulibaly, president of the Sanata group, which has 17 members and employs around 30 women daily while working with 111 farmers, expressed her gratitude to the government and the financial institution for providing the manioc production unit, which has greatly improved the lives of the people of Tiassalé. "All the training and equipment provided by the project have allowed us to move from a traditional to an industrial phase," she stated.

Her words were supported by N'Guessan Simone Kotchi, a manioc producer in Tiassalé, from whom the Sanata group sources its supply. She is also a beneficiary of the PA-PSGouv project. After receiving training and manioc cuttings from ANADER in 2022, she now produces 20 tons per hectare, compared to less than 10 tons previously. "Thanks to the project, I earn a good living, and my children want for nothing," she rejoices.

"I have been a widow since 2011. It is with this work that I have been able to send my four children to school," says Monique Kouakou, who traveled from Bouaké for the occasion. She is the president of the Agro-industrie Béthanie cooperative and has benefited from a fully equipped semi-industrial unit.

Thanks to the PA-PSGouv, from 2023 to the first half of 2024, five semi-industrial manioc processing units have been installed across the country.
