Energy: The Government Signs an Agreement to produce 372 MW ISO Combined-Cycle Electricity in Songon

On December 2nd, in Abidjan, the Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, signed Amendment No. 2 to the Energy Convention 73 with Songon Energies S.A. The agreement covers the financing, construction, full ownership, operation, and transfer of a 372 MW ISO combined-cycle thermal power plant located in Songon.

With this Amendment No. 2 to the Energy Convention 73, Côte d'Ivoire will benefit from an additional installed capacity of 372 MW and an estimated annual production of 2,800 GWh.

The Songon combined-cycle thermal power plant, with a capacity of 372 MW, is expected to be operational 36 months after the entry into force of the Convention. The total cost of the project is 342.129 billion FCFA.

This project will create approximately 824 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase, and 260 jobs during the operation phase.

It should be noted that in line with the government’s ambition to make Côte d'Ivoire a regional energy hub, the Ministry of Energy's 2022-2040 Master Plan for Production and Transmission aims for a significant increase in electricity production capacity. This will rise from 2,907 MW by the end of 2023, to 3,500 MW by 2025, 5,200 MW by 2030, and 8,600 MW by 2040.
