Ivorian Police Strengthen Capabilities in Combatting Online Sexual Crimes Through International Collaboration

The Ivorian Police have taken a significant step forward in addressing online sexual crimes, thanks to a comprehensive training program supported by the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). On August 14, 2024, twenty police officers received their training certificates, marking a renewed commitment from Côte d'Ivoire to enhance digital security and protect its citizens from gender-based violence (GBV) in the digital realm.

The training aimed to equip Ivorian law enforcement with essential skills to mitigate and prevent online sexual crimes. It focused on creating a suitable political and operational framework for victim protection. Trainers from the Directorate of Computer Science and Technological Traces (DITT) received targeted support to enable them to train their colleagues and strengthen the capabilities of their respective units.

With a victim-centered approach, the training is designed to transform police responses to online sexual crimes, a growing threat in Côte d'Ivoire, where financial damages for victims have exceeded 6 billion CFA francs annually since 2020.

This program highlights the determination of Ivorian authorities and their international partners to combat emerging forms of crime effectively.
