New York City Mayor Eric Adams has dedicated a special day to honor Ivory Coast during the presentation of the CAN 2023 Trophy, thus reinforcing the bonds between the two nations through sports. This decision follows the visit of the Minister of Sports and Urban Development, Adjé Silas Metch, to the city on August 19, 2024.
During this meeting, Mayor Eric Adams formally announced that August 18th would be dedicated to Ivory Coast in New York, celebrating not only the success of the Ivorian team at CAN 2023 but also the growing importance of diplomatic relations.
The CAN 2023 trophy, proudly presented by the Ivorian delegation, thus becomes a symbol of this new friendship.
The event not only strengthens sports cooperation with projects for exchanges and collaborations in disciplines such as athletics, basketball, and of course, football, but also reflects the Mayor’s commitment to developing the ties between Ivory Coast and New York. As he mentioned during his last visit to Ivory Coast on September 18, 2022, “Given current challenges, it makes sense for us to strengthen our relations, exchange experiences, and develop friendship between Ivory Coast and the City of New York,” he stated.
