Sports: Government Supports Ivorian Athletes Qualified for the Olympics

Abidjan, June 14, 2024 - During a meeting on June 14, 2024, at the Prime Minister's Office, the Ivorian government expressed its support for the athletes qualified for the Paris Olympic Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024, in France.

This occasion was an opportunity for the Prime Minister and Minister of Sports and Living Environment, Robert Beugré Mambé, to offer words of encouragement on behalf of President Alassane Ouattara and Vice President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné. "Be demanding of yourselves... this rigor will mark the beginning of your victory over others. Have faith in yourselves and in the support of the Ivorian people. You have potential within you. The victory is in you, you just need to go and get it," he said.

The Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, in charge of Sports and Living Environment, Adjé Silas Metch, revealed that the State of Côte d'Ivoire has allocated 450 million FCFA to support the qualified athletes in their preparations for the competition.

Cissé Cheik Sallah Junior, world champion in taekwondo, expressed the athletes' gratitude to the government. "The government has once again demonstrated the trust and importance it places on the youth by supporting the athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Our gratitude goes to the President of the Republic, who has declared this the year of youth and provided opportunities for young people to realize their dreams in various fields," said the world taekwondo champion, who has been named the flag bearer for the Ivorian athletes at the 2024 Olympics.

Côte d'Ivoire currently has several athletes qualified for the Olympics, including six in athletics, three in taekwondo, two in fencing, and one in judo. Other Ivorian athletes are still competing to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, notably in basketball, archery, and athletics.
