Abidjan Legacy Program and Bayer Sign Partnership to Advance Sustainable Agriculture in Côte d'Ivoire

On September 17, 2024, the Abidjan Legacy Program (ALP) and Bayer West Central Africa (Bayer) solidified their collaboration through a partnership agreement signed by ALP coordinator Abou Bamba and Bayer Deputy General Manager Sefihait Koné at ALP’s headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. This partnership aims to foster sustainable agricultural solutions, mitigate the effects of climate change, and enhance national food security.

The agreement outlines a joint commitment to establish Better Life Farming (BLF) centers in pilot ALP sites and other regions. These centers will serve as hubs for training, raising awareness, and disseminating innovative agricultural technologies. The collaboration will also promote the growth of local and regional farming businesses, particularly in the maize sector.

Abou Bamba emphasized the importance of this partnership for Côte d'Ivoire's agricultural ambitions. "The primary goal of this partnership with Bayer is to exponentially increase our agricultural production, especially food crops, to achieve 85% food security by 2030 while improving the living conditions of rural producers," he stated.

Bayer, a global leader in life sciences, will contribute through high-yield seed provision and tailored plant protection solutions, along with accompanying services aimed at boosting productivity and sustainability.
