Paved Roads: The Current Network of 8,100 Km Will Be Expanded to 9,500 Km by the End of 2025

The current paved road network in Côte d'Ivoire, which stands at 8,100 km, will be extended to over 9,500 km by the end of 2025 with the completion of several road surfacing projects across the country. This announcement was made by Dr. Amédé Koffi Kouakou, Minister of Equipment and Road Maintenance.

The minister was speaking on Thursday, October 17, 2024, during "Gouv'Talk," an online exchange forum organized by the Government Information and Communication Center (CICG). The session was broadcast live on the government’s digital platforms and the Facebook page of the Ministry of Equipment and Road Maintenance.

Regarding urban roads, Minister Kouakou revealed that 5,000 km have been paved nationwide, with 3,000 km in Abidjan alone.

He also recalled that out of the 6,500 km of interurban roads paved before 2011, the year President Alassane Ouattara came to power, 4,000 km had fallen into disrepair. Of these degraded roads, 2,000 km have already been rehabilitated.

In addition, the minister mentioned that out of the 75,000 km of unpaved roads, he aims to maintain 50,000 km annually, as part of the government's commitment to improving the country's infrastructure.
